What age you should start doing weight machines at eg. chest press, leg press, smith machine?
Lolo B asked:
I am 13 and i want to build muscle
the workers at my gym say if i can do 30 reps of any of the machines at any weight i am alright is this true?
if not what machines should i use that will not stunt my growth?
is there any machine i should never use because it will stun my growth?
i am a fit kid and very unvulnerable to injury
all my friends workout and it doesnt seem to stunt their growth
how do heavy weights stunt your growth anyway?

you should wait till you are fully grown just to be safe
it stunts your growth as using heavy weights ossifies the growth plates in your body

An Ultra-brief & Ultra-intense Workout
First off that 30 rep machine thing is complete nonsense, i dont know who told you that but hes obviously never lifted weights before, if your trying to build muscle(which i dont really recommend at your age)
then you should be doing around 3 sets of 10 reps or you could go with
set 1-10reps
set 2-8 reps
set 3-6 reps
increasing weight each set and remember to always improve on the weight your lifting slightly everytime you work out so you are always progressing.
just dont over do it bud, your still growing so your homones are all over the shop, ideally you should let these settle and see where your at, i wouldnt do heavy reps at your age, just keep fit with cardio and add sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups etc into your regime,
you won start noticing a difference with muscle mass untill your abit older mate
Building muscle isnt just down to lifting neiter, your diet is a key component in the process, although like i said before your still too young to worry about any of this and should just enjoy yourself it doesnt last forever and when it ends you`ll want to go back!
what i will tell you is if you are serious, then go regulary and dont quit, include loads of proteins into your diet as these help build muscle!
hope this helps

Weightloss – A different approach
30 reps and your alright to train? What a load of bollocks.
Ok, your still fairly young but that’s not to say you can’t do some form of weight training, you just need to select your exercises sensibly.
I was going to recommend a personal trainer, but going off what you stated in your question, it doesn’t seem to me like they know a whole lot.
For now, commence your training by sticking to basic movements, you know, familiarizing yourself with the various machines and exercises. At your age, and to save me from a visit from one of your parents saying i fed you wrong advice resulting in your height remaining 5″1 for the rest of your life, stick to movements involving your arms and chest and try to exclude back exercises, especially ones involving the lower spine area. So, for arguments sake, bicep curls, light chest press, tricep push downs are all exercises you could ease your self into for now.
Don’t get carried away thinking you have to bench 4 plates a side in order to achieve any results, just take it easy and see if you enjoy it!
If you could find someone with a bit of knowledge to demonstrate the exercises for you, i recommend you ask them!
Good luck:)
